Lack of dementia training
As a carer for my Mum who has mixed dementia I am constantly frustrated by the lack of training of health professionals in dealing with patients with dementia and the lack of joined up care eg:
- A GP saying ‘we don’t deal with dementia here’ - when discussing whether Mum’s LBD could be a factor in the problems she was having
- 4 different GPs prescribing 3 different meds and 1 clinic referral in space of one week
- consultant telling her she’s repeating herself (she has dementia!)
